NOTE:
Effective August 1, 2007 this online course
will be replaced by the 406-page book "Appraising
Personal Property: Principles and Methodology" by
David J. Maloney, Jr., AOA CM. As of that
date, the educational requirements for designation
in the AOA can be fulfilled by attending
the approved courses or
through these alternative pathways.
Note
that AOA members in good standing as of August
1, 2007 wishing to earn their AOA designation
will be permitted to make use of "Appraising
Personal Property: Principles and Methodology" and
take locally-proctored exams as in the past. They
will have twelve months to make use of this
option. AOA
Members joining after August 1, 2007 (and
existing members after August 1, 2008) seeking
designation will be required to attend approved
personal property appraisal courses.

This
comprehensive and unique online course
of instruction presents over
550 pages of basic personal property appraisal theory
and methodology in a well-organized and step-by-step
process. The course has been written and is maintained
by nationally-known certified appraiser David
J. Maloney, Jr., AOA CM, the country's leading
educator in personal property appraising. The Complete
Online Course in Personal Property Appraising will
be available at no additional charge to all AOA members
until August 1, 2007 at which time it will be terminated
and replaced by "Appraising
Personal Property: Principles and Methodology" as
noted above.
While
offering a complete education
in all aspects of traditional personal property appraisal
basics, the course places a special emphasis on doing
appraisals online via the Internet making use of
digital images and client-provided descriptions as
opposed to personal inspections of the property by
the appraiser. Throughout the course, topics
pertaining specifically to online appraising are
highlighted in red.
Course
Lessons 1, 2 and the first portion of Lesson 3 are
open to the public. Access to the balance of the
course is included in the price of AOA membership
is accessible only by members of the AOA. Learn

Until
August 1, 2007, the two optional proctored course exams enable
the AOA student to earn credentials as an Accredited
Member of the AOA. Accredited members
of the AOA are entitled to use the designation "AOA" following
their name. Accredited Member who also satisfy these additional
requirements earn credentials as Certified Members of
the AOA and are entitled to use the designation "AOA
CM" after their names.
