Members
of the Association
of Online Appraisers are
required to comply
with the AOA Appraisal
Report Writing Standard as well as with
the AOA's
Code of Ethics.
Standards
set forth what is considered by the AOA to
constitute professional and ethically
proper appraisal practices. Standards
not only act as guidelines to competent
practice for its members, but they also
provide users of appraisal services with
a benchmark by which they can gauge the
adequacy of an appraiser's services.
Standards
aid the AOA in
accomplishing its goals which are to:
- To
help member appraisers become more
knowledgeable and skilled — both to
improve their marketability and to
improve the effectiveness of the services
they offer to the public
- To
encourage sound professional practices
among members
- To
increase public awareness of what constitutes
good appraisal practice
- To
establish standards by which the public
can gauge the professionalism of online
appraisal services and the adequacy
of the online appraisal work product
Both
online as well as traditional USPAP-compliant
sample appraisals that are written in
accordance with AOA standards
are made available to members. One example
is made available below to provide the
public with a sense of how the Standard
translates into a finished work product. AOA members
are free to prepare reports in any fashion
that meets the AOA standards.
The sample appraisal reports provided
in this course are only examples of the
many ways in which that can be done.
